My unspayed rescue dog has swollen nipples and licks. Is she pregnant?

It certainly sounds like from your description that Jasmine could be pregnant, but without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. I would take her into a vet, that is the only way to know for sure if she is pregnant or not. Her symptoms could be caused by a false pregnancy, so she needs a blood test looking for the hormone relaxin which a dog produces when pregnant. If the vet suspects she is at least 45 days along, x-rays can be done to see if she carrying puppies and how many she will have. I would take her into a vet in the morning. In a younger dog I would say she’s pregnant. In her case being older I recommend a veterinary exam to make sure there is nothing medically wrong causing these symptoms, and they can do an ultrasound or X-rays to determine if she’s pregnant. It's possible that she is going through a false pregnancy (pseudopregnancy) if you are sure that she didn't get bred by a male dog. Dogs often get mammary enlargement and will lactate when they are in a false pregnancy. Your veterinarian can gather a history and assess Princess. They may want to x-ray or ultrasound her to confirm that she is pregnant or not if she was out of your sight within the past 2 months or so. A false pregnancy usually resolves without treatment but it's also possible that she is developing some mild mastitis from the mammary enlargement. The pictures are a bit blurry, but from what I can see, Katy's nipple looks normal. Since she has not been spayed, it is possible that she is experiencing a false pregnancy (or an actual pregnancy if she has mated with a male dog). If you are feeling any lumps associated with her mammary glands, it would be best to have her examined by a vet.

I am wondering if Lokita might be experiencing a pseudopregnancy. Sometimes dogs will have all of the hormonal changes associated with pregnancy and can even produce milk without being pregnant. It’s important to make sure she isn’t truly pregnant even though you keep a close eye on her. I’d recommend having your vet examine her - they may want to perform an ultrasound to make sure she isn’t pregnant and if they are suspicious of pseudopregnancy they can discuss treatment.

There are a couple of reasons that you might be seeing swelling with Lily's mammary glands. If she has had a first heat cycle (which can sometimes be a "silent" heat or difficult to see) that would be the most likely possbility. I would recommend that your vet examine her tomorrow to see what they think is going on. They will likely still be able to do her spay tomorrow. I hope that was helpful.
