My 11-year-old dog suddenly won't use his leg. What should I do?

He Won’t Put Any Pressure On This Leg. He Has No Existing Medical Issues. He Is 11 Years Old In Human Years

The fact that JR won't put any pressure on his leg tells me he is in a lot of pain. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I'd take him into a vet today to get this diagnosed and treated.

Unfortunately, your choices of OTC medications for pain are limited as most can be toxic or have a very narrow margin of safety.
Ideally, you should have your dog examined by your veterinarian. A medication, such as Metacam (meloxicam) or Rimadyl (carprofen), may be dispensed if indicated.
For now, restrict activity to just leash walks for elimination. Alternating warm and cool compresses may also relieve discomfort. Other alternative treatments include acupuncture or cold laser therapy.

I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Why is my senior dog suddenly limping and holding his leg up?

It sounds like the lameness get worse and now it got to a point of non weight bearing, so in this case I would recommend to take him to a vet. The vet will examine him, asses the lameness as well as probably give him pain relief and joint supplement. The vet may want to consider to run some diagnostics if indicated from the physical examination. Good Luck

Try restricting Bruno's activity for 24 hours. Leash walk him for elimination and avoid any running, jumping or rough play. If the lameness persists, have him seen by your veterinarian for a complete physical and orthopedic exam. Bruno may have injured his hip or knee. Xrays will likely be indicated to diagnose or confirm joint disease or ligament damage.

It sounds like Bonbon may have hurt himself, and yes I would be worried since this is not normal behavior. It could also be that he is suffering from arthritis, which can be common in senior dogs. I'd give his vet a call in the morning to have him examined. If he is suffering from arthritis, the vet can prescribe pain medications for him. Poor Paco. Yes take him into a vet immediately. If he won't put pressure on his leg, he's in a lot of pain and unfortunately there are no pain relievers you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I'd take him into a vet now. I hope this helps!

My dog's hind leg is sore, and he won't stand. What could be wrong?

He could have a torn the ligament in his knee, have back pain, or an arthritis flare up causing these symptoms assuming you didn’t see him get injured. I’m glad you’re taking him in soon. They will feel his hips, back and legs and may recommend x-rays. They will most likely put him on pain medication since he's probably not getting up due to discomfort.
