Unfortunately, your choices of OTC medications for pain are limited as most can be toxic or have a very narrow margin of safety.
Ideally, you should have your dog examined by your veterinarian. A medication, such as Metacam (meloxicam) or Rimadyl (carprofen), may be dispensed if indicated.
For now, restrict activity to just leash walks for elimination. Alternating warm and cool compresses may also relieve discomfort. Other alternative treatments include acupuncture or cold laser therapy.
