My dog had a stroke. Are recurring symptoms normal during recovery?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed

My dog had a suspected stroke 7 days ago. She made a fairly good recovery after 3-4 days but over the last couple of days has been displaying similar symptoms again though not as severe. The vet advised that it could tAke 3-4 weeks for full recovery with some episodes along the way. Should I be worried about the recurring of symptoms

Your vet is correct that it can take three to four weeks for full recovery, and that there can be some episodes during the recovery. Given that her symptoms are similar but not as severe, I would monitor Honey for now. Should her symptoms become severe or continue through until tomorrow, then I would take her back into the vet for an exam. It's understandable to be worried about her, and keeping an eye on her for now is the best thing to do. Of course, if you are very concerned, there's absolutely nothing wrong with taking her into a vet now to be seen.
