My spayed dog's healing incision got muddy and wet. What to do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | spayed | 7 months and 25 days old | 60 lbs

Hi, Daisy was spayed on Monday and our vet told us not to get her wet for two weeks. Today she escaped from her leash and went running around through a bunch of mud getting her healing incision muddy then wet after I had to bathe her and clean it. What should we do?

Bathing and cleaning the incision should be sufficient - from now until her sutures are removed or her incision is checked you should monitor very closely for signs of infection including redness, swelling and discharge. Hopefully she will still heal just fine.
