Is my dog's spay incision dark or has something sticking out normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 35 lbs

My dog was spayed about 3 weeks ago. I noticed there’s this one area of the incision that’s dark and has something sticking out that wasn’t there before. Should I be worried? And is there something I can apply or do to make it better?

What you're seeing looks like the tail end of suture material popping out from under the skin. I would not be worried or fuss with it too much. The incision looks well healed, but you might want to take Luna to the vet to have that piece of suture removed.
