What's the best time to spay my dog: before or after first heat?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 months and 23 days old

I am looking to spay my female dog, but I am not sure in when should I do it. I am thinking whether is better after or before first season. What would be best recommended in terms of her health?

I usually recommend to have the spay done before the first season, although in her case she is probably so close the her first season that you might not have time to have it done. however it's not a major issue, it's absolutely fine to have it done after the first season as well.
