Why does my healthy dog sound like he's choking when he barks?

It's hard to say, but if there is concern about something being stuck in the throat, I would have Bruno examined by a vet ASAP. Sometimes infections that cause kennel cough can cause these symptoms, but it is safer to rule out a possible foreign body or blockage first.

Hi, it could be that Benson has kennel cough and it is something he will overcome with time and supportive care like making sure he is comfortable, warm and eating smalla mount of food little and often. He might also benefit of some antiflammatories. However to be sure that Benson has kennel cough, I would ring your vet and have him checked over.

Poor Diesel! It's possible that he has a respiratory infection or he could be suffering from cardiac disease. I would have him seen by a vet in the morning for a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and possible x-rays. These tests can help the vet diagnose what is causing his symptoms and can prescribe treatment for it.

Coughing can be due to many different things such as: 1. kennel cough 2. heart disease 3. collapsing trachea 4. foreign body 5. parasites (ie: lung worms, heartworms) 6. bronchitis/asthma 7. cancer 8. pneumonia I think you should get Daddy to your vet for an exam so you can get this figured out. From the description of the cough for Marshall it sounds like kennel cough. Kennel cough can sound like a honking cough or a hacking noise and can occur at any random time but more frequently when excited or with exercise. Other reasons for cough with Marshall can be: parasite infection allergies pneumonia (much less likely) inhaled foreign body (much less likely) I would recommend to keep him away from other dogs while he is coughing in case he has kennel cough and is contagious. If his cough persists and/or worsens, stops eating, or acts lethargic, please schedule an appointment with his veterinarian so they can examine him and determine the cause of his cough.

If he was kenneled or groomed recently or has been around other dogs, it may be kennel cough. His breed is also predisposed to developing heart disease or a collapsing trachea. Shadow should be examined by your vet if the cough is worsening or if he is developing other symptoms such as lethargy, exercise intolerance or difficulty breathing.
