My dog has a soft lump in her armpit that changed. Is it serious?

This is most of the time differentiated with a test called a fine needle aspirate which is easy, cheap and pain-free. Sometimes, a biopsy is required for a diagnosis. Have Panzer evaluated by your veterinarian to have this test performed to try to sort out what the diagnosis is so that the best course of action can be determined. Keeping my fingers crossed that it is something benign!

Hello. This could just be a cyst or small tumor such as a histiocytoma. At this point, it does not look worrisome, so just monitor for any changes in size &/or shape. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. I'm glad to hear that Willow's lump has not dramatically changed in size and that she is otherwise feeling okay. Lumps and bumps can be benign or malignant masses, granulomas, abscessed/infected lesions, among many other conditions. Even though this lump has not changed, I still recommend taking Willow to her vet for further evaluation. The vet will be able to performa fine needle aspirate, which will use a needle to draw a few cells from the lump so that the cells can be examined microscopically. This test will provide a lot of useful information as to whether the lump can be monitored at home for changes or if surgical removal is the best course of action. That's a good size growth. This could be benign or malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed.
