My dog is sneezing due to allergies. Is Zyrtec safe and will it help?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed

Hi Our 6 month old sprocker spaniel keeps sneezing. It's like she has hay fever since the weather has picked up here. On doing some research I found that it is safe to give dogs certrizine hydrochloride to dogs for allergies. Can you clarify this? Also will this help sneezing? Or can you recommend another type of antihistamine more specific to sneezing in dogs? Thanks

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach!

Zyrtec is a human antihistamine that Vets use OFF-LABEL (not FDA approved or tested to be safe in dogs and cats) with success. Harper's sneezing could be from allergies.

Please read the following links below for further information:

I wish Harper the best!
