My dog smells like mothballs. Could she have eaten them? Is it toxic?

If she only ate a small piece of the wrapper, I would not be concerned as long as she did not ingest a mothball. I would recommend just monitoring Shelby and if you notice any symptoms developing (vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, etc.) I would bring her in to be examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I'm glad we can be here for you to help you and Whisky! I'm sorry he ate a mothball. There are two type of mothballs, naphthalene mothballs and PDB mothballs. It's important to know which type he ingested because PDB mothballs are the less toxic type. Ingestion of naphthalene mothballs can cause vomiting, lethargy, anemia, and sometimes damage to the kidneys or liver. PDB mothball ingestion can cause vomiting, nausea, shaking, tremors, and possible kidney and liver damage. You should know that just a little as one mothball can cause toxicity in dogs, and it is especially concerning that a puppy ingested one because he's so young. I would recommend having Whisky seen by a vet immediately. Signs of toxicity can take a couple of days to show up because the mothballs dissolve slowly, so it's best he's seen by a vet now to prevent any toxicity from occurring. Take him into a vet now. I would be worried that maybe she drank some, or something else from a garage. I recommend having her to a vet right away as Nancy could have a toxicity issue. Yes, it is. The fumes from the moth balls can be very irritating to the nose, eyes, and lungs. Dogs who are around mothball fumes may develop red, runny eyes, a runny nose, sneezing, and/or coughing. I would not expose Lexi to moth balls. I hope this helps!

I would be concerned that she jumped because she fractured a tooth or injured herself on the can. She may have just been startled. A small amount of air freshener is likely to be bitter and may cause besides and vomiting. I recommend keeping a close eye on Marley. She should be seen by a vet if you think she is painful in the mouth (hypersalivating, guarding, etc) or is vomiting or lethargic. I hope this helps and that all is well with Marley!

Hello, and thank you for your question. It is difficult to tell whether Bentley ingested a toxic amount of the deodorant since it was a spray. Aerosols can contain hydrocarbons which are volatile compounds that can cause stomach upset. If you think she ingested a large amount of the spray, I would take her to the vet now just in case. Otherwise, I would monitor her for any vomiting or diarrhea. If this happens, I would contact your vet at that point. If mild diarrhea is seen, you can try fasting her for about 12 hours, then start offering small frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice.
