My dog is slow, wincing, and won't jump or play. What's wrong?

It sounds like your dog has a problem with her back as that is a common sign of back pain. Dogs are usually reluctant to jump because it causes pain. Your vet can check her for back pain and then prescribe medications to help. She may need an anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxer, and/or pain medications to help. Also, it would be a good idea to restrict her activity for a few weeks, no running, jumping, etc. Hope she feels better soon!

It sounds as she might be suffering from a back problem, probably a slipped disk in her spine which is common for the breed. you will need to take her to the vet, she will need pain killers for a couple weeks and will need to be in cage rest as well for this time.

It's very possible she is experiencing some pain. You didn't mention how old Kourtney is, but arthritis is very common in older dogs. Other issues such as inflammation, slipped discs, injury, etc can also cause pain and stiffness. If the symptoms continue, or she seems in distress, scheduling a visit with your vet is best. They can check for the underlying cause, and get her started on a combination of medications such as glucosamine for joint issues, or pain and inflammatory meds to help her feel better.

Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. To me this sounds like Echo is likely in some degree of pain. A change in activity is often a sign of pain. Most dogs don't actively whine or complain when they are uncomfortable or painful. If back or neck pain is present a dog won't always limp. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Diamond is adorable! It does sound like she is somewhat painful as she is hesitant to do normal activities. This can be caused by arthritis - pretty much any joint can be affected as well as the spine. Your vet can perform a thorough orthopedic exam and x-rays to isolate the signs to a particular part of the body. Certain conditions such as Lyme disease and autoimmune disease also cause generalized joint pain and can be ruled out with bloodwork.
