Dog slipped, has hard hip lump. Is it a blood clot or just swelling?

Poor cash! This could be a mass or an infection. If he is eating, drinking, doesn’t seem painful and acting normally, then I wouldn’t consider this an emergency. BUT I would try to get him into the vet as soon as you are able. If it is infection, then if could quickly get worse and he could become ill. Your vet will be able to aspirate some cells from the swelling and look at it under the microscope to tell you that what it is. Your vet will be able to provide him with some antibiotics or anti-inflammatories if needed. If it is a mass, your vet will be able to recommend whether or not it needs to be removed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that Gypsie has this going on. I'm concerned that a bleeding, hard lump could be a skin tumor in Gypsie. If she is an older dog a skin tumor is a little more likely. She could also have a pressure sore or infection causing this issue. If you post a picture of the knot it may be helpful so we can provide more advice. There's a good chance that Gypsie may need to see a veterinarian to address this issue but it's hard to say without a better description or a picture. Definitely consider an exam with your veterinarian as I'm concerned if this lump continues to bleed it may get infected or cause more issues. Hello. If Scarlett has 2 lumps pretty much over each hip, & with Scarlett being a slightly older dog, then my guess is she has "love handles". If Scarlett is also a little overweight, the hips are a common place for some fat to accumulate. Rest assured that tumors rarely happen in the same area on both sides of the body, & since your vet is rather unconcerned, then it sounds like Scarlett is fine. If you are really concerned, you can ask your veterinarian to do a fine needle aspirate in which a very small needle is used to remove a drop or 2 of sample from under the lumps. These sorts of lesions are next to impossible to adequately diagnose without a physical exam the pet, and more importantly, the lesion itself. While I couldn't say with certainty, there is PROBABLY not enough of a blood supply to this mass to cause a large dog to bleed out. There are no certainties, but this would be highly unlikely. I would however be concerned if it is suddenly filling rapidly, hardening, and is located on a location that could affect Karma's mobility in the long run. Her her into the vet for an exam so they can determine the appropriate steps. Once they palpate it, depending on your desires, they may want to obtain some cellular or tissue samples to assess origin, they may want to remove the lesion entirely, or they may tell you to just leave it be. The last of those three is doubtful though given what you've described and how quickly it has enlarged and heated up. You might want to check her temperature at home as well with a regular rectal thermometer. Anything higher than 102.5 is considered feverish. That is unusual that Dirt's left hip bone looks larger than normal. It's good that she isn't limping and is not showing any signs of pain when you manipulate her leg. It's a good idea that she sees a vet for this problem, and it's fine to wait a week for it since she seem otherwise normal. I would recommend getting x-rays done on the hip to help diagnose what is causing it to look larger than normal. To be safe, I would rest her until her appointment. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. Good luck!

I would be concerned that Layla has an abscess if it is filled with pus and blood. this will be very painful to her, and she needs to see a vet as soon as possible for it. She will need it drained if it has swollen up again, and she will also need antibiotics to treat the infection. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The vet can give her pain medications as needed. As for the swollen vaginal area, she could be suffering from vaginitis which is inflammation of the vagina. This is more common in spayed females, and something that will need to be examined and treated by a vet as well.

Unknown lumps and bumps are virtually impossible to diagnose without, at the very least, a visual inspection of the area. As such, I will provide you with some general information. An unknown mass or lump is typically one of the following: a cystic (fluid filled) structure, an abscess (fluid-filled, but infected), a mass / tumor, an allergic reaction / insect bite, or the result of a traumatic injury. A thorough physical exam and inspection of the affected area would be needed in order to determine which is most likely. In many instances, a needle aspirate (small amount of fluid obtained from the lesion and placed on a microscope slide) or tissue biopsy would be required to obtain a definitive diagnosis as to the type of lesion. If this is not an option, one must consider the location, distribution, duration of onset, patient breed / age / sex, and a variety of other factors. As Foxy is a younger dog, it is less likely that she would have a malignant tumor on her body than if she was elderly. You mentioned that the lesion is soft - this is typically a good sign that she is dealing with something benign or harmless. Whether or not this mass has anything to do with the weight loss is very difficult to say. I would recommend you make a regular appointment to see your vet and have her assessed as a whole.
