My dog has a new skin tag on his elbow after vet visit. Is it serious?

However, the fact that the area is bald suggests that Tripp has been scratching or biting on it. Please, monitor the area for a few days. If you notice that the tag is getting bigger or if it is bothering Tripp, you should get him checked by your local vets. In that case, surgical removal of the wart may be necessary.

Just point it out to the vet at Skippy's next veterinary appointment. Sometimes these skin tags will change colors but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a problem. I would only consider further workup if the lump grows significantly in a short period of time, if it changes shape or texture, or if Timmy starts bothering at it (scratching, licking). Without seeing her in person, it is difficult to say for sure what it is but it looks like a skin tag or a mass growing off of a nipple. Since it is new, it is always best to have your vet take a look at it once to ensure it doesn't need to be surgically removed. After that, if they think it is okay, I would just monitor it closely. Most skin tags are benign and require nothing more than close monitoring. If they are big enough, there is a risk of getting caught on something. Monitor for rapid change or growth. If the tag causes pain or impedes motion then have it examined by your veterinarian.
