Why isn't my dog's skin condition getting better with Piriton?

Hello, sorry to hear about Chintu. It looks like his skin disease has progressed quite a bit. He would likely benefit from a dermatologist to assess him and depending on what has been done, potentially, obtaining skin biopsies would be a next step. One potential cause could include allergies, however other more aggressive lesions like cutaneous lymphoma and fungal diseases should be ruled out. Unfortunately it is difficult to attain a diagnosis based on a picture alone, as this will likely need contributions from diagnostics, physical exam, and history to obtain the most likely diagnosis for Chintu. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist to obtain more specialized care and information. You may ask your veterinarian for a referral to a dermatologist near you. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This does look pretty serious. I'm sorry that Candy is having this issue. My guess based on the way this looks is that she may cuteaneouspythiosis which is a fungal disease. If it is this disease, it is VERY difficult to treat. I know this is frustrating for everyone but in order to find out what is going on and to properly treat her with the correct medications, you need to do some more testing. She needs bloodwork for sure and a skin biopsy of one of those lesions. Without the biopsy we aren't going to know what it is and how to treat it. So, please talk to your vet about doing more testing.

Hello. I am so sorry for your concerns with Brandi. I wish I could just diagnose her skin problems from just a picture, but this is quite impossible. If this has been a chronic issue, my recommendations would be to either get a referral to a veterinary dermatologist who specializes in unusual skin problems, or have your veterinarian biopsy one of these lesions. It is not unusual to have to go this route when you have a frustrating case that just does not want to resolve using conventional therapy. There are a lot of things that could be causing this appearance to the skin, and it may not be easy or cheap to figure it out. I would recommend that you keep working with the vet. Baseline blood work, thyroid hormone, testing for Cushing's disease, skin biopsies, food trials, flea preventatives, etc may be needed.

I am so sorry your pet Gaffy has a severe skin issue. It is impossible to tell what is going on here from the photo unfortunately because the lighting isn't very good. However, with any skin condition that won't improve with conservative treatment (i.e. antibiotics, shampoo's, etc) or ins't readily identified, should be tested. Your vet may need to do a skin scrape, impression, culture or even a biopsy to determine the underlying cause so that we know how best to treat this. It's unfortunately difficult to always tell by a picture what is going on. It looks like a possible contact allergy. I would try an anti histamine with a topical cream/shampoo for inflamed skin. I would monitor her outside and make sure she is not sticking her nose any where she shouldn't like an ant hill. If not improving or getting worse I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian

Hi. If she isnt getting better on the treatment, I would recommend getting her back in to see your veterinarian. It could be that it isnt a skin infection. It could be an autoimmune condition or even a type of skin cancer. I would recommend a biopsy as well as the recheck
