Why is my dog shedding a lot and has thin hair after moving to a new climate?

Even though Emmitt doesn’t seem itchy he could have an allergy, potentially to something in the environment since this is new since you’ve moved. External parasites like fleas or mites would be another possibility. I’d recommend having your vet examine Emmitt to determine what’s going on.

All dogs start their seasonal shed at different times. If the hair and skin underneath looks normal then I am less worried. However, if there are bald spots, crusting, red skin, or itchiness then Woody should be seen by your veterinarian. With his breed I imagine he has some major thick fur to shed at this time of year. Thinning hair in a young dog like Pocholo may be due to environment allergies, seasonal changes, nutritional deficiencies (namely vitamins and minerals) or less commonly for a young dog, an endocrine condition like Cushing's disease. I would assess Pocholo's diet carefully, make sure that he isn't being exposed to anything out of the ordinary, and if not, consider having him looked at by your vet for any other problems. She could have an endocrine disease like low thyroid causing her hair loss, or even though she doesn't seem itchy it's also possible that she has an allergy or external parasite. There are some autoimmune diseases that can cause thinning hair as well although usually you would also see skin changes. Your mum should make an appointment with her vet to have Adele's skin examined.

It might just be normal shedding but it could also be caused by a medical condition. You could bathe him with a moisturizing dog shampoo, brush him and add an omega-3 supplement (Free Form Snip Tips) and see if that helps. The black spots could just be normal pigmentation of his skin. If the excessive shedding and spots continues then he should be examined by a vet to determine if there is a problem. Your vet can do some testing to help diagnose. He could have a skin infection, mites, flea allergy, hypothyroidism, etc.

I can see hair loss on her front left arm, around her eye and on her abdomen it looks a bit discolored. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her and have some testing done to help determine what this could be. The hair loss may be due to a primary skin condition such as an infection or a systemic disease such as hypothyroidism or cushing's disease.
