My 7-year-old Labrador is shaking, achy, and won't eat. What's wrong?

Lili is experiencing very general symptoms of disease, these symptoms could fit almost any internal condition, maybe she is suffering from nausea due to a gastrointestinal disease and maybe she is in pain, from the symptoms described it's very hard to know. i would recommend taking her to the vet as soon as possible in order to get her checked, if she doesn't show any other obvious symptoms during the examination, a blood test and possibly an ultrasound will be needed in order to try and find out what is wrong with her.

Hello, sorry to hear about Princess. Labs unfortunately can suffer from varying kinds of illnesses which may cause any of these signs. These may include dental disease, joint and bone diseases such as a torn ACL or arthritis, liver or kidney disease, and unfortunately cancer. It sounds like Princess is very sick and I would worry that she may have something that requires immediate medical attention. Additionally, if she is painful then she may be suffering and thus I would want her to have some sort of pain medications on board to help her feel more comfortable. The best way to rule out any potential life threatening disease, or treat her for pain or other medical conditions would be to have her evaluated by a veterinarian. You veterinarian will be able to run tests on Princess to determine what the best treatment for her will be and hopefully get her feeling a lot better. In the mean time, ensure she is comfortable and has access to copious amounts of water. Notify your doctor if you see any concurrent vomiting, diarrhea, coughing or sneezing. It definitely sounds like Lola is having a hard time getting around. This can be a common change in dogs that have arthritis, but the sudden onset has me concerned that something more serious could be going on. Possibilities include meningitis, intervertebral disc protrusion or rupture, muscle spasm, among many other things. Lola needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible for a full physical exam. The vet will pay particular location to muscles, the back and may do a neurologic exam to assess for any deficiencies. Bloodwork may be recommended to screen for internal causes of sudden pain, such as infection or kidney disease. Based on diagnostic results, your vet will be able to prescribe appropriate pain medications. Unfortunately there are no over the counter pain medications that are safe for Lola. You can try to raise her food and water bowls up to a more comfortable level, and have plenty of soft bedding for her to lay on on the floor.

I'm not sure how old Daisy is, but she could be suffering from arthritis, may have degenerative joint disease, or could have injured herself. It is concerning that she is having trouble walking, and that indicates she could be in a lot of pain. Given those symptoms, I feel it's best to have her seen by a vet today. The vet can diagnose what is causing her trouble walking, and can treat it while also giving her some pain medications. Please do not give Daisy any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

Poor Dallas! If he is in that much pain from arthritis then he should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can prescribe an anti-inflammatory and pain medications to help treat the problem. Do not give any OTC pain relievers, like Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, etc. as they can be toxic to dogs. If your regular vet can't see him then you could take him to an emergency clinic so he can get some relief. Hope he feels better soon!

As your vet told you this could be an internal pain, although i would not rule out hip pain just because your dog did not react upon manipulation of the legs. i would recommend having him put on pain killers for at least 2 weeks and see if this helps at all.

She may have severe arthritis or some other orthopedic problem, or a systemic illness like Lyme disease, liver or kidney disease, or even some type of cancer. I would recommend taking Baby to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to, since it sounds like she's quite uncomfortable. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment.
