My husky has seizures. Can I be her service person to provide care?

Since she is young, she may just have epilepsy. She should be examined by a vet for a physical examination and lab work to rule out other potential causes. If she is an epileptic than she may need an anti-convulsant medication to prevent additional seizures. Please call your vet and schedule an appointment.

The most common reason for seizures in dogs is epilepsy. Since she has been having balance issues as well and a fever I would be worried about meningitis or a brain tumor. I suggest you get Sam to a vet for an exam.

There are other possible causes of tremors like electrolyte imbalances that should be investigated as that can cause disease and sometimes be corrected. That is usually investigated with basic bloodwork. Other possibilities include neurologic disease. Hello. I am sorry that Laika is having problems. It sounds like she has a few issues going on. In regards to her vomiting and eating grass, she may have food allergies so you can try a diet trial with a different food to see if that helps. With her breathing, if she is reverse sneezing this is normal and can happen frequently. If this isn't reverse sneezing then having radiographs done of her throat/chest, and sometimes fluoroscopy (an active x-ray which is in 'real time' to see motion) can be helpful at finding the problem. Seizures can be caused by many different factors including metabolic disease, organ disease, intracranial problems (masses, vascular events), toxins, epilepsy, etc. To work up seizures you start with general bloodwork, and if this is normal you pursue imaging in the head, so MRI is often indicated. If you would like to pursue a complete work-up with Laika then talk to your vet about an internal medicine consultation, or possible neurologist specialist consultation. Good luck with Laika.

Aron could have had a toxic reaction to the smoke depending on what kind of smoke it was, and it's quite serious that he had a seizure. Even though he's fine now, it's not normal for a puppy to have seizures, and I would have him seen by a vet immediately for a health check.

I always recommend blood work to start with in any dog that started having seizures. There are a few things that could be diagnosed on blood work that could cause seizures, such as liver disease, kidney disease, electrolyte abnormalities, and infection. If the blood work is normal. Your vet will likely recommend that you continue to monitor Harley for seizure activity. Some dogs will have a seizure or two early in their life and never again. But some develop epilepsy that needs to start on medications. I'm very sorry to hear that your dog has epilepsy! If he has severe or frequent seizures, then he definitely does need to be on prescription medication to help control them. Legally, we cannot prescribe medication for any pet without first doing an in-person exam, so this is not something that can be done over the internet. So I'm afraid there's really no alternative except to take him to a veterinarian in your area to be seen, so he can be started on medication to help control the seizures. There is no reason that this should need to be a particularly expensive visit - most vets are very willing to work within the budget you have, as long as you let them know that you have financial constraints. If you don't think you can afford even the cost of the office visit +/- some basic lab work (which may be recommended prior to starting on meds), you could try calling your local shelter or humane society to see if they have any resources available to help pet owners in your position.
