Why is my dog scratching, has dark spots, raw patches, and nipple issues?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Hi my dog has been scratching badly, one of her nipples seems like it’s dying, she has random dark spots popping up, and raw patches on her . She isn’t outside much and she doesn’t have any visible fleas on her. Do u have any idea what this is or what I can do for it?

Poor pup! It's possible she has developed an allergy (it could be environmental or food related) or an endocrine disease (like hypothyroidism or cushings disease). It sounds like the lesions are all over and I don't like the fact that her nipples are becoming discolored. I think your best option is to have her examined by the veterinarian.
At home you can try giving her an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets but it may not correct the underlying cause. This can however improve over all skin health. There are two brands of food, Royal Canin and Nutro, which are aimed at skin health and they may help as well but again, they may not affect the underlying problem. Lastly, bathing her in an oatmeal type pet shampoo can help to condition the skin. This should not be done more than once a week.
I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
