My dog has a runny nose and cold. What medicine does a vet prescribe?

Poor guy. Upper respiratory infections in dogs are usually caused by a bacterial infection. Other possible causes are a fungal infection, or allergies. It's best to take him to the vet to get examined and medications to treat this. If he does have an upper respiratory infection then he will be prescribed oral antibiotics to take care of it. If the discharge is clear like water, then there is little need for concern. However, if the discharge is yellow/green, then he may need treatment. Hi. Poor baby. I would recommend getting an antihistamine from your veterinarian to try. Usually if the runny nose is clear, it is allergies or a viral infection. The antihistamines will help with allergies and a virus just needs to run its course. Its good news that she is doing great otherwise.

If the discharge is clear then give it a few days to see if it resolves on its own, because it is possible this is just allergic rhinitis. If the clear draingae is severe, then you can also call your vet to see if they can recommend antihistamines for Panda to try. However if the discharge is any other color, then it's best to take Panda in to your vet for treatment because an infection is likely present, requiring the use of antibiotics to clear things up.
