Stubborn dog ringworm: Why does it keep coming back and how to treat?

I'm wondering if you mean ringworm? This is a highly contagious fungal infection. When a dog has ringworm, the environment has to be disinfected because the spores will live in it for up to 18 months. If Baby Bella is continually having ringworm, it could be there are spores in the home causing her to repeatedly get it. I will put a link below on how to disinfect the home. That's because ringworm spores live up to 18 months in the environment, so if you don't disinfect it, it will be a continuing source of ringworm. Hi there! For ringworm we often treat for 30 days, depending on the veterinarian's choice and how bad the infection is. You will probably not be able to get a prescription without seeing a new doctor unless you can get you're other doctor to fax a previous prescription. If they did not prescribe you anymore, your doctor may want to see if your puppy improves with little treatment. You will have to get ahold of the original prescription before you can do anything else unless you want to see another dr (probably ER on the weekends) to see if the doctor thinks you need more.

Hello, once the ringworm has cleared up, they should not be shedding it persistently. However, you need to make sure that you've also cleaned your environment by washing all bedding and clothing Snickers used 2-3 times weekly. Vacuuming and cleaning all surfaces that snickers frequented in the same frequency as the ringworm fungus can live in the environment for a long time. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Izzy has one of the most frustrating dermatologic issues we face with our pets. Fungi are notorious for taking a very long time to kill or at least have managed. Unfortunately, there are multiple factors that contribute to a dog getting ringworm, and part of it is inate susceptibility that Izzy has. Inflammation of the skin will make skin infections of any kind more likely, so that should be a priority to get under control. There are shampoos available with a prescription, so ask your vet about them. Also, on rare occasion, oral antifungal therapy is warranted. This is less than 5% of cases from my experience, but if it is widespread on her body, it could be necessary. As she is susceptible, using a topical anti-fungal shampoo would be beneficial to minimize chances of recurrence once Izzy's skin has cleared-up. The itching needs to be explored further because it is what leads to skin inflammation and thus a higher chance of having an infection. Without being able to examine her, it is difficult to say whether the ringworm is under control, so continue to follow up with your vet as it can take weeks to months for it to clear up completely. Athlete's foot cream will not cure ringworm in dogs, and both your dogs have to see a vet first thing Monday. Ringworm in dogs is caused by Microsporum canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, or Microsporum gypseum, while athlete's foot is caused by trichophyton rubrum. For ringworm you need either Conofite lotion (Miconazole), or a similar anti fungal cream +/- an oral antifungal (i.e. Fluconazole or Ketoconazole). Ringworm can take 2-4 weeks to cure in most cases. Also shaving the hair around the lesions helps prevent further spread. It is also advised to was all of Bruno's bedding in really hot water to eliminate any fungal spores the environment that could re-infect him.
