Why is my dog refusing food and throwing up, but acting normal?

I would be worried that he may have a serious problem such as an [intestinal obstruction](https://www.petcoach.co/article/7-things-you-should-know-about-foreign-bodies-in-dogs), [pancreatitis](https://www.petcoach.co/article/pancreatitis-inflammation-in-dogs), or even [parvovirus](https://www.petcoach.co/article/canine-parvovirus-7-things-to-know) depending on his age. I would recommend having him seen by a vet right away - he/she can palpate his belly to check for any abnormalities, and may also need to do blood work and x-rays to determine the problem. Caramelo will likely need IV fluids for dehydration and may need to be hospitalized for further treatment depending on what's wrong.

He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause, especially if he is lethargic. He could have an infection, parasite, pancreatitis, kidney disease, liver disease, endocrine disease, obstruction/foreign body. Your vet can run labwork and take xrays to help diagnose and prescibe medications to treat. He may need fluids to prevent dehydration and medications to control the vomiting.

I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. Chronic vomiting, has multiple causes but may cause an electrolyte imbalance which could account for the symptoms you are seeing. If he is drinking more water than usual, he should be seen by your vet for an exam and bloodwork to rule out kidney disease, diabetes or other GI issues. When a pet is vomiting, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If he won't eat, serve the food warm or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate the appetite. If the vomiting stops, transition slowly to the regular diet. If not or if the appetite does not return, then you will need to see your veterinarian.

I am very sorry to hear that Tye is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. I would believe the most likely cause in a lung dog like Tye is gastrointestinal worms or a gastrointestinal infection. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few days I would continue to monitor Tye at home. Here is what you can do for him over the next 24 hours; Rest Tye’s gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. This will tempt him to eat while also being healthy for gut recovery. You can also purchase Hill’s I/D from a veterinarian, which is a premade food which will have the same effect. I also find that boiled, mashed skinless sweet potato is helpful for diarrhoea if he is experiencing any of that. In the longer term I would also advise switching his dog food brand, in case he is not doing well because of his current food. It sounds as your pet is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet urgently, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. . if the vet thinks it is more serious he will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
