My dog has a reddish tick. What diseases could it transmit to my dog?

It is good that you are aware that ticks can transmit diseases! RMSF as you said and Lyme disease are just two of them. Her behavior may or may not be related to the tick, but since some of these diseases can be lethal, I would recommend taking her (and the tick if you have it) to the vet. Ticks can transmit disease such as lyme disease. This can cause a rash or bruising, lameness and tremors, and generalized not feeling well--often non specific signs. I would take her to the vet to have a test ran for tick borne disease and have a CBC performed to make sure there is no signs of a decreased counts that can cause bruising. It could be inflammation from the collar but I would not risk that chance without testings due to the extreme side effects of tick borne disease.

I don't like how it has a dark circle in the photo. I recommend to have this examined by the veterinarian. Depending on disease prevalence in your area, the doctor may recommend prophylactic treatment for tick borne disease or may discuss vaccines for Lyme disease. I hope this helps.

Tick prevention can be achieved in many different ways. There are TONS of products available on the market, some of which are prescription only and others that are over-the-counter. You might ask ten different vets and get ten different answers as to which product is best, and this is sometimes due to the fact that certain products work better in certain geographic regions. For instance, where I practice in western Pennsylvania, we find that the Seresto Collar provides the best protection, particularly against deer ticks. However, this is not what was routinely recommended further down south. The recommendations will likely be different in the UK as well, so asking some local vets their opinion would be a valuable tool for you. Just in general, there are three different formulations for protection: topical, collar, and oral medication. Any of them are capable of getting the job done, just some are better than others in particular instances. In terms of humans, ticks can definitely infect us with diseases. Themise kesion are very suspicious of where a ticj may have been attached due to the inflammation and swelling and the target lesions. Lyme disease is transmitted by 1 type of Tick but there are other Tick disease caused by different types id ticks. With that degree of inflammation I would have your vet check those area and do lab work. It will check for Tick borne diseases and check for any changes in the blood from the illness if positive.

Ticks are also usually found in haired areas of skin rather than the lips. Because it is not clear what this is, I do not recommend removing it from Charlie yourself. Especially because of the proximity to the mouth and possibility that Charlie may bite if painful. If this is truly a tick, Charlie should be seen by a vet, as ticks can transmit Lyme disease and other blood parasites, and he may need to be put on prophylactic antibiotics. If this is a mass, your vet can elect to remove it under light sedation or anesthesia and send it off to lab as a biopsy. I recommend having Charlie seen by a vet as soon as you are able to and hope all is well!

Ticks can certainly be a problem and transmit a number of diseases including Lyme disease and others. Ticks transmit diseases by attaching to the skin and need to remain attached for a period of time to transmit disease. You do not need to worry about the tick that fell off any more than other ticks, but if you have seen other ticks on Laser, then you should look into prevention options.
