Why does my dog have red scabby lumps and yellowish penis discharge?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 9 months and 12 days old | 60 lbs

These red scabby lumps have appeared within the last week. Nothing substantial has changed. He is up to date on his flea prevention. Today I am seeing yellowish goopy discharge from his penis. What could this be?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Based on the photo you provided, I suspect that Viking may have a skin infection. I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If you are unable to get to a veterinarian right away, I would recommend the below following products which can be found online quite easily. If there is no improvement or the condition worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at it. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. 1. Douxo PS Chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved

My dog has red, scabby sores near his private area. What is it?

That appears to be moist dermatitis. Rukas really needs to see a vet for this condition. He also has some dermatitis in the groin area that I can see in the picture. Since the sores next to the penis are open and weeping he will likely need oral antibiotics to get that to clear up. While you are waiting to get him an appointment at your vet you can apply a thin layer of Neosporin to them 2-3 times per day but he will likely just lick it off. Dog licking genitals, green discharge, red bumps after recent shave?

Hello. The skin irritation is probably from being shaved too close, or possibly even from the shampoo not being completely rinsed from the skin. I would bathe Uno in cool water, no soap & gently dry him. The discharge from his prepuce could be a normal secretion called smegma. It could also be balanoposthitis, inflammation of the glans penis & prepuce with excessive preputial discharge. While mild cases can be self-limiting, more severe cases can lead to abscess formation & scarring. My dog has small red bumps, scabs, or pimples on skin. What is it?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can definitely see the small red bumps your are referring to, and agree that they appear scabbed over. This can be caused by a localized skin infection, an infestation with mites or fleas, or even an allergic reaction. It is likely that these conditions may be causing Hump to be itchy, and she may be having these scabs from scratching. A vet can perform some tests including blood work, and taking some samples from Hump's skin to figure out what is going on and prescribe an appropriate treatment plan. I hope this helps!
