Why does my dog have red rings and bugs on her skin from the woods?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 12 lbs

My dog has been in the woods lately and now has red rings in clumps on her body. These rings also have some kind of small round bug either around the spot or dug in that spot. It not a flee because its not a tear drop shape. I also believe its not ticks cause there are at least 100 on her. Please help.

It's possible for it to be ticks. It's also possible that this is lice. Besides those and fleas, there are not other parasites that tend to be visible and in high numbers on a dog. If it's possible to send a picture, then that would be helpful for identification. If not, then it's a good idea to have her seen by a vet, because they can identify the problem and prescribe the necessary treatment.

I hope that helps and all is well with Daisy.
