My Maltese has a red oozing circular spot. What could it be?

I recommend that you have Tika evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. I recommend you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as this will likely require local therapy with cleaning of the site, pain control medications and antibiotics. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! From your pictures I think the crusts are epidermal collarettes which are the end results of a pustule. A pustule usually indicates a bacterial skin infection. Skin infections can be from allergies due to food or the environment. Ideally oral antibiotics are used to clear bacterial skin infections. If she is also itchy then we prescribe medications to helps that as well. Below is a medicated shampoo that may help. I recommend bathing 2-3 times per week and allowing the lather to sit on for 10 mins on the affected areas before rinsing. If the skin doesn't improve I recommend a Vet exam. Bo's lesion looks most suspicious for a bacterial skin infection, but could also be due to ringworm, mange, or bruising. Since it does not seem to be bothering him, you can monitor the lesion for the time being to see if it changes colors, grows, becomes itchy, or spreads elsewhere. You can also try bathing him with an antimicrobial shampoo (here is one example: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=27982 ). However, if the lesion worsens or seems to be causing discomfort, it is worth taking a trip to the vet for evaluation. I hope that all goes well!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would take Rem to the Vet. It could be a hot spot (superficial skin infection) or ring worm. They are treated very differently. Hot spots are treated with antibiotics and steroids while ring worm is treated with antifungal medication. I wish Rem the best!

I recommend that you continue to monitor Milo for now. If this lesion fails to improve on its own or it worsens have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
