My dog has red, crusty blisters on her belly. What should I use?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sasha. I suspect she has a mild superficial skin infection starting on her belly. I would start by bathing her twice per week with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula. This may take care of it as it appears mild. If the lesions spread or do not resolve, she will need to see her veterinarian. Skin infections can be due to an allergy, irritation or parasites. I hope this information helps!

That looks like a skin infection - could be due to an injury. I suggest you use this product on him but you can also try Neosporin or other topical antibiotic cream. Poor Sasha! If that lesion is getting worse, she needs to go back to the veterinarian for further diagnostics. The doctor may recommend a culture to check for unusual bacteria or a biopsy to check for autoimmune disease. Make sure to protect the area from scratching with an elizabethan collar. Hello. They appear to be epidermal collaretts, very typical of some skin infections caused by a staph bacterium. It stands to reason that they are clearing up because Bulya was on antibiotics. You can continue to treat these at home just by using an over the counter anti bacterial shampoo, one with benzoyl peroxide or 2-4% chlorhexidine. These shampoos are available at most large pet retailers or on-line. If you can bathe Bulya twice a week, letting her sit in the suds for 10 minutes before rinsing, all the lesions should clear in 4-6 weeks. There is not a photo which may help. I recommend to let the vet know that the blisters have burst. They may recommend a steroid cream or something topical to put on the lesions. Make sure the keep the area clean and dry. Make sure your pet does not lick the area and she may need to wear an elizabethan collar at all times. I don't recommend to put anything on the lesions without first consulting your veterinarian. These lesions may dry up and heal on their own but your vet will know best since they can actually examine the lesions. I hope this helps and that she heals quickly.

It looks like your dog has a skin infection so he should be examined and treated by a vet. He, likely, needs an oral antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory that your vet can prescribe. If the meantime, you can bathe him with a medicated shampoo, like Douxo Chlorhexidine. You could also spray the lesion with Vetericyn wound and skin care spray.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The most important part of treatment of a rash is to stop the self-trauma. I strongly recommend getting an E-collar for Bess. Once you have this on, I would clean the rash with warm water, and then dry it very well. If there is yellow/cream/green debris, or the pimples are very numerous, then antibiotics might be required. I would try the e-collar for a couple days, if it isn't looking better fairly quickly then I suggest going back to your vet to discuss if antiboitics are required. There isn't really anything that you can put on it in the mean-time to help with the itch, as steroid creams might make it worse if there is a bad infection. Once you stop the licking with the E-collar it should start to improve. Best of luck with Bess.
