My dog has red bumps and smelly skin after boarding. What is it?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From the pictures you have provided, I suspect that ceasor has a skin infection. Now, whether or not the skin infection is due to skin parasites, bacteria or Yeast is difficult for me to say by looking at the pictures. I would suggest having a veterinarian examine him in order to get a diagnosis for the most appropriate treatment. Treatment will likely consist of antibiotics, antifungal drugs and topical therapy. If you are unable to get to the veterinarian right away, I would suggest starting a medicated shampoo such as Duoxo chlorhexidine PS combination and bathe twice weekly until the infection is resolved. I would also recommend starting him on welactin omega 3 fish oil and essential 6 spot on by dermoscent. I hope this helps! Hello. It is possible that this is a stress-induced, mild pyoderma (skin infection) - essentially a staph infection. I would pick up some Hibiclens antibacterial skin wash at any pharmacy & gently cleanse the affected areas 2-3 times a day. Be sure to avoid his eyes and rinse well afterwards. If the lesions appear to be healing after 3-4 days & do not seem to be spreading or worsening, then that is probably all that needs to be done. If after a week the lesions are still prominent, spreading or turning into oozing pustules, please see your veterinarian for additional treatment. Hello. It looks like Sam has some pretty significant dermatitis going on, most likely caused by a staph infection in his skin. But allergies, auto-immune disease & even some hormonal imbalances/diseases can cause skin symptoms like this. He really needs to be seen by a veterinarian, preferably one with a specialty in dermatology, if possible. In the meantime, I would be bathing him in an antibacterial shampoo, one with benzoyl peroxide, or 2-4% chlorhexidine. Most pet retailers carry something. Soap him up for 10 minutes before sensing thoroughly, & repeat the bath every few days, or at least twice a week. Hello and thank you for your question! It sounds like Rogue has a skin infection from your description. If the bumps are not going away and getting worse, Rogue will likely need a course of oral antibiotics, medicated shampoo and supplementation. If you are unable to get to your vet right away for a recheck, I would start a medicated shampoo such as Duoxo Chlorhexidine PS shampoo, essential 6 spot on by Dermoscent and Welactin omega 3 fish oil. Chronic skin problems could be several things including allergies to fleas, allergies to something in the environment, food allergy or endocrine disease. Each one of these problems is detected and addressed differently and I recommend to discuss with your veterinarian which one to start hunting down first. Parasites are often ruled out with an oral medication like Simparica. Food allergy is best ruled out with a diet trial using a hydrolyzed protein. Endocrine diseases are detected with blood work. Environmental allergies are a little more difficult to detect but a response to therapy or a blood test can give an indication. Once you figure out and address the underlying cause, the lesions should not come back. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Also protect the area from trauma by having Simba wear an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent licking if needed. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It looks like Bruno has a skin infection. Parasites like mites and fleas can cause irritation of the skin that can lead to bacterial infections. If he has not had skin scrapings performed to look for mites, that would be my recommendation. If there are no mites, and he has been treated for fleas, then perhaps the topical medications he is on are not enough, and he needs an oral antibiotic to control the infection. I hope this helps. It could be a pyoderma (skin infection). See your veterinarian for an exam. He or she may diagnose bacterial or fungal skin infection and can prescribe the appropriate medication afterwards. Treatment may be topical, systemic or a combination. Consider adding an essential fatty acid supplement, such as DermCaps or EicosaCaps, to her diet to promote healthy skin and coat. Place an e-collar (cone) on your dog if she is licking or chewing excessively.
