My dog has a recurring white lump on his head. Should I pop it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 10 years and 1 month old | 120 lbs

My dog has a small pee like size lump on his head, white in color, semi firm doesn't seem to bother him. It went away and now is back. He also has another one under his chin. My vet looked at it and said nothing to be worried, no biopsy was done. Said I could pop it with needle if discomfort shown but I am scared its not what she thinks and popping may harm him. He is 9. I see his vet on friday. Any suggestions?

Hi,
It's impossible to truly know exactly what it is without doing a fine needle aspirate of it. Although it could just be acne or a sebaceous cyst or ingrown hair. I would not worry about it. Have your vet take another look at the next appointment and see what they say.
Hope this helps!
