Is it okay to give my dog a raw egg when I feed him at breakfast and dinner time?

While there is nothing harmful in terms of toxicity in adding a raw egg to your dog's food, I do not recommend feeding raw foods to pets as they always add a risk of foodborne illness such as salmonella, not only to your dog but also the humans coming into contact with the dog https://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/ucm403350.htm .

Typically, it is stongly recommended to boil all the way through or cook eggs fully to prevent infection with Salmonella. Raw eggs can be hard on the digestive tract as well and can cause vomiting / diarrhea when many are consumed. I would recommend boiling or cooking the eggs prior to feeding them to Dollar. I always warn owners about raw foods. Just like if we were to eat a raw egg food poisoning is possible from bacterial infections. Most commonly salmonella. As long as you are aware of the possibility of her getting a food borne pathogen, you can feed her a raw egg.

No on the raw eggs. Just like people are not supposed to eat raw eggs. The chances of contracting Salmonella bacteria is very high and that can kill your dog. Not worth it. Yes, but it is not good to feed it raw. Raw eggs can carry salmonella bacteria which can make him very sick and he can even die from it. Raw eggs also contain an enzyme that hinders absorption of vitamin B. It is better to feed eggs scrambled or hard boiled. Your confusion is understandable! The answer depends on who you ask. Some veterinary professionals recommend raw eggs, others say never. If you buy organic eggs from a reputable farm or supplier, then you likely will not have an issue. In the wild, eggs are consumed raw by predators and opportunistic scavengers. One or two quail eggs occasionally will likely not cause any issues as long as Sharon is eating a balanced diet. If you notice any gastrointestinal upset, decrease the amount and frequency until you find a happy medium.

Is it safe to give my dog raw meat as an occasional supplement?

Great question! I do not recommend feeding any dog a raw diet due to the risk of pathogens (E. coli, Salmonella, etc.) that will remain both in their mouth and in their stool. This poses health risks both for Tux and for you (particularly if there are children or immunocompromised people in contact with Tux). If you want to offer him a supplemental food in addition to his dog food (I'm assuming that he primarily eats a balanced commercial diet), you can try home cooking foods for him. There is a great website out of the UC Davis Vet School - balanceit.com - that has recipes for home cooked diets and lists of ingredients that are considered to be safe for dogs. That said, commercial dog foods are balanced diets that do not NEED supplementation, but I understand if you want to add something extra in for Tux. :-)

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Eggs are very healthy for dogs (and humans). The yolk is fatty however, so you need to watch how many calories of dog food you are feeding so Peanut doesn’t become overweight. Also, if you are feeding a high quality dog food (like Hills, Purina One, Royal Canin, or Iams) you shouldn’t need to add eggs. Good luck and kisses to Peanut!

My dog ate raw eggs. Is it toxic? What should I do to help her?

Hello and thank you for another question. As long as the eggs were fresh, it will not be toxic to Zoey. If she ate a lot of them, she may develop mild gastroenteritis (loose stools and/or 1-2 bouts of vomiting), but there will not be any more serious problems.
