My dog's poop is purple or bloody. Should I be worried if he's normal?

I'm sorry that Azazel isn't feeling well! Bloody stools in a young dog can be caused by IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, or much less commonly a growth or trauma. Eating a large amount of his normal food would not, by itself, cause bloody stools. If his stool looks like raspberry jam, I would recommend taking him to the vet or an emergency clinic right away. If there are just streaks of blood on the outside of his bowel movements, and he's actually totally normal (eating, drinking, good energy, has pink gums) it's not an emergency just yet. In that case, I would recommend feeding him a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice and giving him a day to see if it resolves. If after a second day (so 48 hours total) he's still have blood stool or is having diarrhea, it would be wise to have him checked out at your regular vet. Bring a fresh stool sample to any vet you end up seeing so they can check him for intestinal parasites. Wishing you and Azazel the best of luck! No, this isn't normal, and it sounds like Carmel may have some blood in her feces. It could be caused by intestinal worms, eating something rotten, trauma to her GI tract, or a foreign body among other causes. As long as Carmel is eating and drinking normally, and is behaving normally, you can wait to take her into the vet in the morning. If she's vomiting, having diarrhea, lethargic, and doesn't want to eat or drink, I would have her seen by a vet immediately. The vet can diagnose what is causing the blood in her feces, and can treat her for it.

From the picture it does not look like there is blood in Bruno's stool. The stool does look a little loose/unformed which could indicate colitis. Colitis is an inflammation of the colon and could be caused by many different things such as intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease or a food allergy/intolerance. Severe diarrhea can cause weight loss, malnutrition and dehydration. I would recommend having a fecal performed at your vet to rule out intestinal parasites. If the diarrhea becomes worse then you may need to bring Bruno in to be evaluated. He may need a diet change or antibiotics or probiotics to help clear up the soft stools.

Luke's runny poop could be caused by intestinal worms (if he's not up to date with his deworming treatments), or it could be a GI illness or he ate something rotten. The drop of blood in his poop could due to to irritation of the GI tract from the diarrhea. Since's his poop is normal now, just keep an eye on him for now. If you keep seeing blood in his poop or he has runny poops, I'd take him into the vet. I hope this helps!

The red steak in the picture may be blood; or I could also be convinced that it is some light red material in the poo. If your dog tends to rip up things like clothes or other non-food items, then I would inspect the poo a little closer. If it is blood, then no need to worry too much at this time. This indicates that Paxi has bleeding in her colon, rectum, or anus. This can happen due to certain infections, or trauma (this can happen if Paxi is scooting) to the anus. However, this bleeding is often transient (often goes away in a day or two) and does not need treatment right away. If she also had diarrhea, then I would be more concerned. If the stools remain a normal shape like this, and Paxi is otherwise behaving normal, then I think it's OK to wait a day or two and see if the red streaks stop. If you continue to see this for more than 24 hours, then I recommend taking Paxi and a poo sample to the vet for examination. I hope that helps and all is well with Paxi.

If diarrhea develops or the stool begins to contain mucus or obvious traces of blood (blood in the stool is frequently more liquidy), then she should see her veterinarian.
