My dog isn't eating, has eye goop & hard poop while on Prozac. Vet?

In my experience the decrease in appetite associated with starting Prozac usually resolves in 3 - 5 days. Making the food extra tasty, as Dr. Elbeze has suggested, is a great idea. If the appetite loss continues after 5 days, talk with your vet about a temporary decrease in the dosage (often we'll halve the dose to see if the appetite comes back) and then gradually work back up to a full dose again.

I suggest you talk to your vet about this. Her dose may need to be adjusted to a lower quantity. It sounds like she is having side effects. I suggest you drop the dose to 20mg once a day until you can speak to your vet. You cannot just stop this medication cold turkey. Hi there. I would be concerned with Hershey developing serotonin syndrome with concurrent use of trazadone and fluoxetine especially if you are giving them together often. It has to do with how the drugs are metabolized in the body and what receptors they work on. Side effects can be as you have listed, as with diarrhea, labored fast breathing, etc. I would try calling your doctor to discuss changing the dosages or weaning off the trazadone altogether. Peeing in the house, barking excessively, soft stool and drinking a lot could all be caused by stress/anxiety, for which non -prescription VetriScience daily Composure chews (available on chewy.com) may help, however a consult with your veterinarian re: Prozac (which takes 3 weeks to take effect) or an alternate anti-depressant /anti-anxiety medication or the help of a trainer may be needed. It would be safest however to schedule an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam, full screening bloodwork, a urinalysis and fecal exam to rule out parasites as the cause of the soft stool or renal disease/diabetes as the cause of the increased drinking. I'm sorry you are having such problems with Smudge. The vet may not want to give him an appetite stimulant because it could interact with any other medications he is on currently, or it may not be appropriate for him. It sounds like you are having a really tough time, so I would take him into another vet for a second opinion. Best of luck.

Whitish stool is an indication of a digestion problem and would not generally be related to anxiety; the head bobbing may be related to fever or nausea also. I would be concerned about the lethargy and poor appetite - try offering her warm moist food and also some pedialyte to prevent dehydration. A recheck by your vet should be considered if not improving within 18-24hours

I'm sorry to hear that Buddy is not feeling well. If a dog is very constipated oftentimes they will stop eating because they have an overall feeling of fullness. Since I don't know what other medications Buddy is on it is hard to know what to recommend in this instance. Of course calling or taking him to see your vet that prescribed the medication would be a good starting point. If you are unable to do that at this time some things you can do at home are making sure he's drinking plenty of water (because sometime dehydration can lead to constipation) and trying to get him to eat something with a lot of fiber such as canned pumpkin. If these suggestions aren't working I would take Buddy in to see your vet. Sometimes there is a serious underlying problem to constipstion and you dog may need fluid therapy, an enema and/or a diet change.
