My dog keeps popping a bleeding bump on his belly. Is it serious?

This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Moco! Due to his age, the appearance and the location it looks like a histiocytoma. Which is a benign mass in young dogs. They tend to resolve on their own in a few months but sometimes if they ulcerate, grow rapidly, become infected or bleed we recommend removing them. Another possibility is a mast cell tumor. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thanks for the pictures! Many skin masses can look the same. Red dermal masses, like this one, can be benign or malignant. Some possibilities are an inflamed sebaceous adenoma, hemangioma, histiocytoma or it could be a Mast Cell Tumor. Since it showed up quickly I would have Oscar seen by your Vet. They can decide if aspirating it (sticking it with a needle and sending the slides to the lab) or removing the mass and sending it for biopsy is best. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! My dog gets these. He has had them on his legs and they would bleed occasionally especially during a bath. They tend to be benign growths. I don;t like your description of the one on the face that increases and decreases in size though. That sounds like the behavior of a mast cell, which boxers tend to get. If it looks like the one in the picture it could increase and decrease in size based on the blood inside the mass. The only way to fix them is to remove them, which is what I did for my dog. Sadly they will develop more over time. I would take Kate to your Vet and have them examine the areas and discuss removal. Hello If possible a photograph of this lump would be helpful. It could be a lipoma (a harmless fatty tumor) but Boxers are known for developing mast cell tumors on their skin. Those types of tumors need to be removed as they can cause issues with the GI tract and even anaphylactic reactions.

This looks like a possible mass that has a really good blood supply or even a blood blister. I would try applying a cold compress on it for 5-10 minutes, if a vet is not readily available. If you can get the bleeding to stop tonight I would leave it be for now and then get this checked in the morning by your vet if possible. However if you cannot get the bleeding to stop even after the cold compress and perhaps even placing a make-shift wrap around it, then an ER vet visit has to be considered to stabilize the area. However, an ER vet visit is usually only needed if it is gushing blood, for fear or too much blood loss. If it is oozing then it likely can wait until morning before seeking veterinary assistance. Then surgical removal of this mass should be highly considered to avoid this type of complication in the future. Best of luck with Maggie and I hope you get this resolved soon. Take care.

This looks like it could be a cyst or a skin tumor like a hemangioma. I find that once a skin growth ruptures it tends to happen again, so I would definitely recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian. They will probably recommend surgically removing this growth.
