My dog won't eat. What are common reasons for a dog's poor appetite?

You could try tempting Darwin to eat by offering some canned food or a different type of food, but if he also seems lethargic I'd be concerned that there might be a medical problem causing a decreased appetite. Unfortunately a decrease in appetite and lethargy are somewhat vague symptoms with many different causes. If Darwin still does not want to eat tonight or if any new symptoms develop (vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, change in urination) I would recommend seeing your veterinarian.

If his only symptom is inappetence, I would keep an eye on him and not offer food for 24 hours. He can have water. That way, if something has upset his stomach, it will have time to rest and recover. If he has any other symptoms, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, fever, get him in to be seen by a vet right away as this may be signs or a more serious problem.

Try to offer to him different type of food, usually chicken is very palatable. If the signs persist or you notice more signs like vomiting, diarrhoea or lethargy a check up would be needed to determine the underlying cause of it. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. Hello, and thank you for your question. Not eating for two days can be a sign that something is bothering her. It could be something like gastroenteritis (tummy upset), pancreatitis, infection, or pain, among many other things. I would take her to a vet in the morning, where they will perform a full physical exam to check for any sources of pain or discomfort. They may also recommend blood tests or x-rays depending on what is found and what her other symptoms are. Hopefully with these, they will be able to find out the cause of her anorexia. In the meantime, I would try offering her a small homemade meal of plain boiled chicken and rice. This is generally appealing to dogs and plain enough that it should not cause any further upset if her tummy is bothering her. I hope this helps and that Daisy is feeling better soon!

It sounds like Code is sick. I am concerned he hasn't eaten for a day and he's weak. Not eating can be a sign of many problems such as dental disease, systemic illness, infection, or injury. Without seeing him in person, I can't say what is going on. I'd have him seen by a vet today to get this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
