Pheromone collar caused lumps on my dog's neck. What should I do?

It is difficult to know what the initial lesion was, an insect bite, a skin growth, or a place where his collar has rubbed and irritated the skin are all possible causes. I would do the following; Replace his collar with a chest harness to let the area rest Clean the lump with warm water and then leave open to dry Measure the lump with a ruler In 2 weeks measure the lump again. Check for growth, changes in texture, colour or bleeding. If you notice any of these then I would advise a check-up at the vet.

Yes, it could be from the collar. Keep it off for now, and see if the bumps resolve. If they do not, have Wallace seen by a vet. Since you are taking off the Seresto collar, give him an oral flea medication like Nexgard.

This appears to be a cyst but it could also be a plugged hair follicle, an abscess or even a tumor. There is no way to know just by looking at it, unfortunately. If this was my dog I would not be overly worried at this point. I would leave the collar off, if possible, and only put it on as needed to prevent it from rubbing on it and just monitor it. If after another 7-10 days it does not resolve or it gets larger (or opens) then I suggest you take him to your vet for an exam. Don't put anything on it. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

The rubbing collar can set up inflammation and an environment for bacterial or yeast infection. The itching can cause inflammation that could cause something like a bump. I would recommend that you have Chester examined by a vet to see what exactly is going on. The vet may recommend anti-inflammatories or antibiotics or topical medications depending on what is really going on. Until Chester sees the vet, the best thing you can do is to keep him from scratching, so he may need to wear sock or pet shoes or a shirt that covers the area.

This is most likely a sudden allergic reaction to something and should resolve within 12-24hours. If he becomes distressed or uncomfortable, contact your vet for medications to help - they may also prescribe antihistamines to have at home should it happen again also!

I agree that it's unlikely that Smith's collar caused this lesion in any way, but it could be causing it to be more irritated by rubbing it. From the picture, the lesion looks like an irritated papilloma, but the only ways to differentiate between different types of masses are through a fine needle aspirate or biopsy, both of which involve different ways to examine cells microscopically. Given the irritation present, continue to keep Smith's collar off of him as much as possible at home. You can also try to clean it with an antiseptic cleanser, like Hibiclens or betadine (both of which are available in most drugstores), but take care to rinse and dry well afterwards. Ultimately, I do think you should have this lesion examined by Smith's vet to help determine if it should be removed or if it can be monitored at home for changes. I hope that everything goes well!

Poor guy. He is likely having an allergic reaction to something he was exposed to outside. You can give him an antihistamine to see if this improves things. As long as his breathing is ok and there is no swelling around the neck, he is likely to be fine after 12 hrs or so as the reaction subsides. You can also try bathing him in an oatmeal or hypoallergenic shampoo to help calm down the skin. If the skin reaction does not improve or worsens by tomorrow then have your vet take a look at him and they can administer stronger medications to subside the skin reaction. It will take a bit of investigating on your part to figure out what he could have been exposed to to cause him to break out into hives.
