My dog has parvo, still vomiting, and IV caused wounds. What now?

Hello. It does sometimes take time for the gut to heal after a bad bout of Parvo, & 11 days of treatment says to me this was a tough one. Continue to fed Pluto, but you might want to switch to an intestinal diet or one made for sensitive stomachs & skin. I would try feeding pretty small amounts frequently, rather than 2-3 larger meals a day. Even a tablespoon or two every hour or so might be tolerated better. If your Pluto was not under the care of a vet for this, I would also be concerned about concurrent intestinal parasites, so a good deworming may be necessary. All you can do is supportive care meaning trying to give her fluids (something like children's Pedialyte) and small amounts of food (like human baby food, meat flavors). Do tiny amounts every hour or two. Hopefully she will be able to keep it down. The reason they need to be in the hospital on IVs is because they vomit up everything you try to give them by mouth. Keep her warm and comfortable. I really don't think people understand the seriousness of this disease. This disease (that is absolutely preventable with proper vaccinations) kills their intestinal cells and then depletes their white blood cells so they cannot fight the virus (among other terrible things this virus does). She should really be hospitalized with intravenous fluids, intravenous antibiotics, anti-nausea medications, pain medications and trickle feeding. Often times a plasma transfusion is needed to replace all the lost white blood cells. If you want to give her the best chance at survival then you need to get her to a vet for hospitalization. If finances are a concern I would have tried to direct you to a low cost clinic but since you did not provide your correct zip code I am unable to do so. I suggest you do your own research on the internet. Sorry, but this disease is not easily treated at home. You can try the above but that is about all you can do from home. This is a viral infection so there is no direct treatment for the virus so the treatment per se is directed at treating secondary bacterial infections and mostly helping with the clinical symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and inappetence. This warrants ideally hospitalization with some cases being able to be managed with outpatient care depending on its severity. I recommend that you continue to follow up with a veterinarian who can institute therapy for Cleo as soon as possible. The quicker this condition gets treated the better the outcome tends to be. Most pets will begin showing signs of recovery after 4-5 days of starting treatment. It sounds like Celie is still not doing as well as expected and that is concerning. I recommend to have her examined again. Have her bloodwork checked to see if she is struggling with low blood protein levels or low platelet numbers. Some pets may need additional colloid fluids or a plasma transfusion. Your veterinarian may also need to do an x-ray to see if there is something else going on like an intestinal blockage. Celie should also be eating a bland diet. I recommend one of the prescription diets like Hill's i/d or Royal Canin gastrointestinal. She may need to be force fed (but only do so with your veterinarian's approval). If you do continue to feed her baby food, make sure there are no onions or garlic in the ingredients. If you cannot get food into her easily, she may need a feeding tube placed or other form of parenternal nutrition. It sounds like you are trying very hard. I can't say if she should be examined tonight or not since I can't examine her and don't know what condition she is in. If she is declining though, she should be examined tonight for sure. Definitely have her checked first thing tomorrow morning if she does not go in tonight. I hope this helps and that Celie starts to recover as expected.

Unfortunately a part from nutritional support there is not much else you can do at home as Parvovirus infection is quite severe one and ideally requires quite intensive care (antibiotics, IV fluids, medications against diarrhoea and vomiting are often required). Make sure Viserion keeps eating and drinking and if not try to syringe feed him. I would not recommend residing the medication since it is impossible to know how much he may have absorbed. You may want to ask your vet if injectable medications might be an option, or if there are other anti-nausea medications to try. I’m hoping Charlie makes a full recovery!
