My dog has parvo. How can I help her recover faster at home?

Ruger needs medications which includes antibiotics (injectable Cefazolin or Ampicillin is needed since he isn't eating), anti-nausea medication (i.e Cerenia or Metoclopramide), nutritional support (Nutri-cal, available over the counter perhaps at your local pet store). As long as he is getting fluid therapy he is getting much needed electrolytes which is greatly beneficial towards his improvement because dehydrations is the #1 cause of death in these pets. You can also offer him small amounts of Pediasure using a syringe or small turkey baster.. I hope that your poor puppy is able to fight through this horrible viral infection and makes a full recovery.

Parvo is a medical emergency, and because it's so deadly, the sooner you can get her into the vet, the better for her. I wouldn't recommend waiting until the morning, I would take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her now. Good luck!

All you can do is supportive care meaning trying to give her fluids (something like children's Pedialyte) and small amounts of food (like human baby food, meat flavors). Do tiny amounts every hour or two. Hopefully she will be able to keep it down. The reason they need to be in the hospital on IVs is because they vomit up everything you try to give them by mouth. Keep her warm and comfortable. I really don't think people understand the seriousness of this disease. This disease (that is absolutely preventable with proper vaccinations) kills their intestinal cells and then depletes their white blood cells so they cannot fight the virus (among other terrible things this virus does). She should really be hospitalized with intravenous fluids, intravenous antibiotics, anti-nausea medications, pain medications and trickle feeding. Often times a plasma transfusion is needed to replace all the lost white blood cells. If you want to give her the best chance at survival then you need to get her to a vet for hospitalization. If finances are a concern I would have tried to direct you to a low cost clinic but since you did not provide your correct zip code I am unable to do so. I suggest you do your own research on the internet. Sorry, but this disease is not easily treated at home. You can try the above but that is about all you can do from home. There is no medication strictly for parvo, but treatment consists of supportive care medication such as antibiotics, anti-nausea medication (Cerenia), fluid therapy (subcutaneous or IV fluids), vitamin supplements, and if needed pain medication. These are all medications that will require a veterinary prescription. They are also all injectable medications in the beginning of treatment since most parvo pets will not tolerate anything given by mouth. If she's stopped having diarrhea, this is a good sign. I hope that she has some medication on board for nausea and vomiting - if not, your vet should be able to prescribe some for you to give at home. Normally, with parvo, the best sign of recovery is when they have gone 24 hours without any vomiting and are eating on their own - until then, you need to continue treatment with fluids and other supportive care.

Just have water available for her to drink if she wants it. She may not be interested in drinking because you are giving the SQ fluids. The biggest thing that seems to help recovery in parvo cases is to get them eating as soon as possible. So, if you can try feeding her some canned puppy food that would be best. The chicken is OK but it does not have all the nutrients and vitamins needed to help her recover quickly. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Unfortunately a part from nutritional support there is not much else you can do at home as Parvovirus infection is quite severe one and ideally requires quite intensive care (antibiotics, IV fluids, medications against diarrhoea and vomiting are often required). Make sure Viserion keeps eating and drinking and if not try to syringe feed him.
