Why is my dog panting in her sleep? Is it normal? Should I worry?

If she's otherwise entirely normal (eating normally, drinking normally, good energy during the day, seems like herself behaviorally/mentally), I wouldn't be too concerned about this middle of the night behavior. Everything I can think of (seizures, neck pain, other pain, metabolic issues) would also cause issues during the day. That said, if she keeps it up for a week or more, a general vet appointment may be good to confirm nothing is going on.

Peanut's panting could be due to overheating, a respiratory infection, an allergic reaction, or pain. I'm not sure what the weather is like where you are, but try moving her to a cool area to see if that helps with the panting. If it doesn't, I would be concerned that she could be suffering from a respiratory infection, allergic reaction, or is in pain. Keep an eye on her, and if the panting continues overnight, take her into a vet in the morning. Should she go into respiratory distress, becomes very lethargic, and/or refuse to eat, rush her into an ER vet right away. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hello. If Bella's breathing appears normal when she sleeps, then this is not too concerning, but it would not hurt to have her evaluated just to be sure. She is too young for most chronic conditions, but if she is not on any heartworm preventative, this would be a good thing to check on. If River is normal when she wakes up and acts normally during the day (eating, drinking, playing, no vomiting, no diarrhea, etc) then I would not worry about it. If she seems sick in any way then I would get her to the vet for an exam. I suggest you take a video of this behavior so you can show your vet when you take River in for her next set of vaccinations so they can give you better advice. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Jubilee is adorable! I find that puppies, especially when sleeping, breath heavier and faster. If she is anxious or nervous then that could be why she pants while awake. If this is a sudden development or she also isn't feeling well then she should be evaluated by a Vet. Hi. This could be normal, especially if dreaming. If he is normal otherwise and breaths normal when awake, you can monitor. If he acting quiet and breathing fast awake, I would get him seen right away.
