What Omega 3 supplement helps my dog's allergies and itchy skin?

Yes omega 3 fatty acids are great for them! I would recommend a brand made for dogs. I have attached a link below. You can also give 1/2 tablet of benadryl twice a day to help with itching. You may also think about switching her to natural balance limited ingredient diet venison and sweet potato food in case it is a food allergy. This food has no grains and no chicken/beef which are the most common allergens for dogs. I hope this helps.

Both of them are products containing omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins and fish oil basically. Any veterinary product available in Portugal with similar content (ask your local veterinarian as unfortunately I do not know about veterinary market products in Portugal) will be fine. These are not specific medicines but only supplements that can help with allergic skin but not treat the signs (itch usually). Drugs that will help with the signs would be basically steroids, Apoquel, and immunosuppressive medications. A part from treating with effective and appropriate prescription medications, some supplement based on omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and vitamins could be beneficial. Coatex could be a good product.

Hello. The best thing to do is start Bella on a good glucosamine supplement. Products made by Nutramax like Cosequin are excellent. A good quality fish oil supplement may be started, too, as this can help some aging changes & may also help with her itching. It sounds like Mochu might have an environmental allergy. This based off the commend you make that the skin became a problem when the environment changed. Environmental allergies can be difficult to treat. I highly recommend applying flea prevention every 30 days. Also, you can use an over the counter anti histamine to help control itch. IF the skin is breaking and bleeding you can try an over the counter medicated shampoo. I am not sure about the supplement you mentioned. I have seen fish oils and omega three fatty acids help with skin control. Mochu might need to go see a vet for possible steroid or apoquel to help decrease itchy skin. However I would also recommend a basic blood screen because endocrine disease like hypothyroidism can also cause skin issues in older labs.

Adding fish oil can be considered regardless to help with the dry skin. You can use the commercial kind for dogs. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!
