My dog isn't drinking, anxious, and gassy. Should I go to ER?

I'm sorry Paws isn't doing well at the moment! I would try offering him water. Give him a chance to drink the water, I would keep offering it to him over an hour. If he refuses to drink the water, or he drinks the water and then vomits it up, then I would take him into the ER vet. It's a pretty serious sign when a dog won't drink water or can't keep it down, and in cases like that, it's best for them to see a vet right away. Should he drink the water and keep it down, then it's fine to wait until the morning to take him into the vet. Continue to monitor him tonight, and if Paws becomes very lethargic, the shaking gets worse, he starts vomiting, or he shows any other signs of illness, then take him into an ER vet right away. If she's completely refusing food and water and it's been more than a day, I would try to get her into your vet sooner or into the ER. You can check to see how dehydrated Aurora is by gently pinching and tenting the skin over her neck. If it seems "sticky" or is very slow to return back to normal, this is a sign of dehydration. If she's dehydrated in addition to her other symptoms and also is suffering from underlying health issues, I would have her seen right away.

If your dog has not eaten or drank anything in a few days, she needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately. Dogs can go a few days without food but they have to have water or risk severe dehydration. The gas could be caused by whatever has caused her to lose her appetite. She could have eaten something bad for her, swallowed part of a toy or other foreign object and have a blockage, or have an infection or a growth that is interfering with her digestion. She needs an exam, blood work and possibly x-rays to determine the cause of her illness. She may also need to be hospitalized to receive IV fluids and more intensive treatment.

I am sorry to hear about Winnie. You can try taking her temperature to check for a fever. A thermometer (I don't recommend glass for risk of breakage) can be lubricated with vaseline or other lubricant and inserted rectally 1 to 2 inches. A normal temperature is 100 to 102.5. Above this would be a fever and cause for concern. Taking a rectal temperature may also help stimulate a bowel movement. You can also give a few teaspoons of canned pumpkin added to her food to help relieve constipation in case that is part of her issue. If she has a fever, constipation continues, lethargy continues, or she develops vomiting, decreased appetite, pain, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, or has pale gums then a visit to the vet is recommended.
