Dog neuter stitches: Is discharge normal 5 days after surgery?

Yes from your description of what’s happened this looks ok. Continue with the cone and walk him if needed to reduce his energy level. As long as the discharge is on the clear side without an odor that’s fine. If it becomes yellowish with a foul odor he may be getting an infection. If so please take him back for a recheck and probably oral antibiotics. Every day this should improve and he should be healed up in a few day to a week. In some cases, a small amount of serous or serosanguinous (clear or pinkish) discharge can occur a day or two after surgery. However, Elvis should be checked by his vet to make sure the incision has not become infected or developed a seroma, and is healing properly. Keep using his cone of shame to prevent any licking. The incision appears to be closed, although it isn't a pretty incision, it is functional. : )There is one area that has a pustule (infected pocket) there, but it should heal with the antibiotics that he is on. This is a common thing that occurs in pets that have a mild reaction to the sutures or staples placed, nothing serious to be concerned about at this time. So far, this looks to be healing appropriately. : ) Keep an eye on the pustule there, it may rupture, and if it does just wipe it with a clean dry towel and make sure the incision does not get wet in any way. Also ensure that Waffles keeps his e-collar on at all times to avoid him getting to the incision and potentially taking out staples, which could cause this to open up. With the antibiotics on board, the incision and pustule should heal completely by day 10. Keep an eye out also for any profuse drainage, separation of the incision line, or increased redness, and get this rechecked by your vet sooner if seen. The red area next to his incision looks like some bruising that likely occurred due to trauma/pinching of the area during surgery. Bruising can worsen during the first 2-3 days following a procedure, but should start to improve after that time. The dried blood/crusting around his incision is not abnormal either. If Charlie Brown will tolerate it, you can gently wipe the crusting away using a damp wash cloth once daily, but not any more frequent than this. I definitely recommend keeping Charlie Brown's Elizabethan collar on AT ALL TIMES until his sutures are removed by your veterinarian to prevent him from licking at the area and causing trauma/increasing the risk of an incisional infection. If the bruising worsens after day 3-4 post-op, and/or you notice yellow/thick, foul-smelling discharge, and/or if any of the sutures seem to have fallen out, I recommend having Charlie Brown seen by your veterinarian right away. If there were stitches in place it's possible they may have torn since the area looks open (it's hard to tell from a photo alone). If the are is oozing or stitches are obviously torn open I would bring Hank back to your vet for care. Otherwise, keeping the area clean and dry can help prevent infection. Hank should also be on strict kennel rest and leashed-walks only along with an Elizabethan (cone) collar to prevent him from pulling any stitches until healed.

From your pictures you have provided, I would strongly suggest taking Buddy in to have the neuter incision rechecked. It looks infected and looks as though the wound will open up further. It looks on the picture you posted that the opening is very small. This should heal without stitching. - It takes 10-12 days for incision wound to fully heal up. However, if there is wound infection or the wound opens up, the healing process may take a few days longer. - The incision usually opens up as a result of licking the wound. It also can be caused by jumping, running or any excessive exercising. - Please, talk to your vet about the yellow discharge from the wound. Caesar may need an antiseptic cream or ointment on top of antibiotics treatment.
