My dog's neuter site has a tiny bloody hole. Is it an emergency?

If it is only dripping a few drops of blood and your dog does not show any other symptoms, i would not worry about it, it can happen and it can last 3-4 days max. the blood tends to gather in the empty testicular sac and this is why it tends to bleed for several days.

The patient becomes weak, pale and very lethargic. If he has any of these signs, then you need to seek emergency care right away. If he is eating, drinking and acting like himself, then it is more likely that he has some post-surgical swelling and bruising of the scrotum. The incision site itself appears to be healing well. I recommend following up with his veterinarian to ensure he does not require additional treatment. Check the incision whether a stitch came out or whether it opened. If not, then all is well . You need to keep your dog from licking the incision. Licking prevents the incision from healing. If the incision keeps bleeding or if the incision looks open, you need to go back to your vet to have it closed again.

From your question I think you are saying the Tua was neutered 3 days ago and he was cryptorchid (meaning one testicle had not descended in to the scrotum). They then had to go into his abdomen to find the other testicle. From your picture the incision appears closed. A little red which is ok. If Tua is acting fine then you can try warm compressing the incision twice daily. Make sure he is STRICTLY rested meaning no running, jumping, leash walks only and not licking the incisions. Use and E-collar or a t-shirt. If the incision is still leaking or gets worse then take him to the Vet Good luck!

It looks like just a little bit of blood. Do not clean it, just apply gently pressure to stop any bleeding. If this bleeding becomes excessive, take Lucky into an ER vet right away. Do not allow him to jump.

Thank you for the picture of Apollo's incision, it's very helpful. I agree the incision does look a bit swollen and red, and I'm concerned there is some bleeding. Please feel the skin area, and if it's warm as well, he needs to see an ER vet immediately. Otherwise, wait until the morning and take him in then. Should the area keep swelling during the night, it keeps bleeding, and/or he becomes lethargic, then rush him into an ER vet right away. I hope this helps!

It's normal for a dog to lick the scabs. After 13 days, Milo's incision should be fully healed, and if there is a small amount of blood, I would not worry. I would start worrying if the area appears infected, in which case you would see redness, swelling, the area would be warm to the touch, and you'd see pus. If he is licking the area excessively, then I would put the cone back on and have him see the vet. I hope this helps!
