Why is my dog losing muscle and lethargic, but vets find nothing?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Our husky, always healthy and active suddenly started loosing muscle mass. We started making her food ourselves from fresh cooked meat. She was getting very lethargic. The vet said they could find nothing. She finally became so weak and thin she couldn't get up so we had to put her down but I have always wondered what or why. Can you give any insiter?

I am sorry to hear about your dog. It is hard to say without know if your vet did any testing and what the results were. We would worry about things such as diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, protein losing nephropathy, protein losing enteropathy. If you have any information on bloodwork, x-rays, or ultrasound testing done on your dog it may help us narrow possibilities. You can consider doing a consultation with one of our vets if you have this information.
