My dog has mouth growths. What are they and how can I treat them?

These look like juvenile warts (oral papilloma). Such warts are caused by a virus, they are self-limiting and and will go away by themselves eventually within a few months. They will need veterinary attention if they increase significantly in size or amount or start bleeding, get infected, or cause other problems.

Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, so I would have them checked out by a vet. Hi. These growths look like papillomas or warts. Typically, these are caused by a virus that he may have contracted by coming in contact with another dog's saliva that had the contagious virus. This may have been through a shared food or water bowl, toy, or through playing. This virus usually runs it course and the warts fall off, but it can take weeks. Sometimes, your vet may have to surgically remove them. Your dog is contagious as long as the warts are present.

If you can still see the wart on your dog's mouth then it is possible that it could still be contagious to other dogs (it is not contagious to people). Most often dogs that are infected are young, immune compromised, or have wounds in the mouth. There are other skin growths that can look like warts that may not actually be viral in nature, so if your dog hasn't been examined by a vet already, I would recommend this. Hello. It would be a good idea to have an exam done by your vet to take a look at that area. That appears to be a growth or tumor and not just a sore. There is nothing you can do yourself to make that get getter. There are many types of skin growths, some are benign and some are cancerous. Your veterinarian can guide you in deciding if surgery to remove that growth is recommended.

While odds are good that Monty's lesion is likely a viral papilloma, the only definitive way to determine what's causing the lesion is through removal and biopsy. Viral papillomas are most common in young dogs (like Monty), as well as those that are immunosuppressed. While viral papillomas are contagious between dogs, in young dogs they typically resolve without treatment. That said, some do dramatically worsen or become infected, which is a bit more complicated to manage. Topical treatment won't do any good, particularly for any lesion in the mouth. It would be best to have this lesion evaluated by your vet, who may recommend diagnostic testing to confirm their diagnosis. With that said, it's also not wrong to continue monitoring it to see if more lesions develop or if this one changes at all before pursuing further investigation.
