My dog missed a monthly heartworm/flea dose. Do I need a vet visit?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My dog has been regularly taking a monthly heart worm and flea/tick chewable for 3 years without a missed dose until now. We missed the July dose and gave the August dose. Should I go to the vet for missing one dose? Thanks

No, there is no need to go to the vet for missing the dose. Your dog should be fine. SHould there be microfilariae present, the next dose you gave should kill them. Just keep giving the heartworm medication as prescribed. Your dog will need a heartworm test anyway every year. No worry!
