What if my dog's microchip is visible or sticking out of their skin?

What you are seeing may indeed be her microchip if it is about the size of a large grain of rice. Microchips should remain under the skin, but can sometimes migrate out. In that case, it may need to be removed and have a new microchip implanted since it may cause problems and not work properly if not embedded normally. Microchips can move to odd places on the body, but when this happens they don't usually have a bump associated with it. I would recommend having your dog checked by a vet to see if the microchip really is causing the bump or if there could be a small tumor forming. Microchips can be very hard to remove as they are the size of a grain of rice and very difficult to find during surgery.

I suppose its possible, depending on the time frame you are referring to when you say "a while back." If it had completely healed and its been over 1-2 weeks since the chip was placed I highly doubt its related to the chip. If she is acting normally and otherwise doing ok, make an appointment at your convenience to go in and and have your vet take a look. You can try to manage it at home first as long as she isn't ill-- shave the hair over the area, clean the skin with soap and water, and just keep it clean and dry. Hi there! It is hard to say what exactly is causing the excessive scratching without examining him first, but it may be the microchip or perhaps the area around his eye may itch. Whenever tissue heals, it itches, and this could cause him to scratch and be unsettled. The needle they use to insert the microchip is quite large and will leave a hole in the skin that will scab over in a few days which can itch. Another cause may be a flea allergy or another allergy. If he continues to itch or appears to still be unsettled today and tomorrow, I would recommend another exam on Cupid to check for other causes of the itching. The microchip is placed in the subcutaneous tissue- beneath the skin but they can move around/migrate, so it isn't unusual that you cannot locate the microchip by feeling it. It shouldn't be able to be crushed by normal handling. If your kitten had just had the microchip placed, in rare cases they can back out, so you can always have your kitten scanned again to be sure it is still in place!

It is rare, but the microchip can migrate. Repositioning it may require minor surgery to remove it. Xrays would likely be required to pinpoint its location. Discuss this with your veterinarian. Poor Bella! No, this doesn't sound normal - usually, you shouldn't even notice the microchip site. Hair loss with redness and yellow fluid from the area can be associated with an infection or other problem, so I would recommend having Bella rechecked by your vet as soon as you are able to. She may need antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication to treat the infection.
