What are the signs of mange recovery in my dog after treatment?

The absolute best way to know is if you see resolution of skin lesions and also when there are no mites detected on a skin scrape/cytology. Mites can still be present on the skin, even when the skin looks great on the outside. This will cause people to stop treating presumptively, and this results in treatment failure as the mites will come back quickly. You must have 2 negative skin scrapes done 2 weeks apart, plus resolution of skin lesions, to determine if a pet can come off medication. I hope this helps!

It is very rare for a dog to have mange showing up at this age. Possible, yes, but not as likely as if the puppy was older. Chances are that mange was not the original diagnosis. It takes months to resolve and the hair to grow back with mange. I suspect that PX may have just had a bacterial skin infection. As long as what you are doing is working and PX is eating, drinking and acting normally then just continue what you are doing. Hello. The best way to determine if there are issues are to re-scrape the skin in the area. This is an excellent way to see if there are any mites still alive or if everything is dead. It isn't uncommon for dogs going through mange therapy to initially get itchier as the mites die and cause inflammation. However secondary infections are also very common with mange. It is common for a dog to be on antibiotics and perhaps an anti-itch medication in addition while being treated for the mange. You could call the veterinarian that prescribed the mange treatment to discuss antibiotics and/or medication to help with his itching. Sometimes a topical shampoo helps but often oral medications are needed.

You didn't mentioned how long ago you started the treatment and how bad was the infection, Demodex can take between a few weeks to several months to clear up completly, it is important to renew the treatment as long as the skin seems to be affected. eventually the skin will recover but it will take some time, i usually recommend Bravecto for treatment.

There is definitely an improvement, it can take several months until the skin recovers completely, just continue the treatment and i would also recommend using Bravecto tablet, this also treats demodex and will help restore the skin.
