My dog's lump biopsy bled. Is this normal or cause for concern?

This could be a hematoma (when blood vessels burst and cause a blood-filled blister.) from being poked three times for blood. Typically these are not something to worry about and resolve on their own. Do not try to squeeze, and keep an eye on it. If it gets bigger or doesn't appear to be resolving over the next week, I'd take Oxley into the vet. I hope this helps!

I know this is upsetting, and it's difficult waiting for the results of the biopsy. However, you should know that pretty much any ear trauma (surgical or otherwise) causes a considerable amount of bleeding, even if properly closed. So I don't think this additional bit of bleeding is necessarily confirmation that this is a mast cell tumor, but I'm glad you're getting a definitive answer, regardless.

Yes, that is fairly normal for a punch biopsy. The opening is usually quite small, but it's a deep wound, so it tends to bleed a lot; especially in certain areas of the body and with certain lesions. I would not be worried right now. Keep it covered and the bleeding will stop soon. The bleeding will not be enough to cause any major damage, so no worries about that. The swelling should go down in the next 2-3 days. If it's past three days and it's still swelling, then it would be worth a recheck by your veterinarian. You can take him to your vet tomorrow, it's not an emergency. this lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Hello, that little red growth does look a little suspicious. If Heidi was a little younger I would have been suspicious of a common benign mass knows as a hemangioma which typically resolves on its own. However, with Heidi being a little older, you should air on the safe side and have that checked out by your veterinarian to ensure it is nothing you need to be aggressive about. It can still be a hemangioma but the best way to ensure it is benign is to test the cells that make up the little lump itself. Hope this helps

Some possibilities are an inflamed sebaceous adenoma, hemangioma, histiocytoma or it could be a Mast Cell Tumor. Since it showed up quickly I would have Oscar seen by your Vet. They can decide if aspirating it (sticking it with a needle and sending the slides to the lab) or removing the mass and sending it for biopsy is best. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point.
