I have a great vet, but I wanted a second opinion on his latest advice. I have been giving my dog subcutaneous saline (0.9%) for months. Lately her blood sugar is low and they've added 5% dextrose to the saline (to alternate with regular saline treatments). Google tells me it's not advisable (greater risk of infection, necrosis). But my vet has been doing it for years. I'm worried about her sugar levels but I'm just not sure about putting sugar under her skin! Would appreciate advice.
