My dog is coughing very loudly. It usually comes once in a month and then it is difficult to stop. What should we do?

This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a chronic tracheitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective like kennel cough are all possible). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
