My dog is losing weight fast but still eating. Should I worry?

Poor Freddie! It could be the increase in activity that is causing the increased appetite and weight loss. Since you saw the worm, I would have your vet check a fecal to ensure there isn't any left over worms that your dewormer didn't get rid of. I would also talk to your vet about his weight to ensure he isn't too thin. If so, they may recommend to increase the amount of food that he is eating. They may also recommend blood work as there are some different things that can cause an increase in appetite and decreased weight like exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That is a decent amount of weight to lose in 7 months. A diet change, especially cutting out table food, can cause weight loss. The question only you can answer is, was Marble overweight in July? And is she fit now? If she is an ideal weght now make sure she can maintain that weight. If her appetite changes, she starts having GI problems or starts to drink and pee more age should be examined and have blood work ran. I hope this helps!

He definitely looks very thin. The biggest concern with a dog that eats well, but doesn't gain weight is that he has a disease or heavy parasite burden. There are some inherited diseases like liver shunts that can cause them to be unthrifty like this and there are some acquired infections like Babesiosis that can also cause them to look like this. The only way to know is to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. I recommend taking him soon, because he doesn't look like he has much left to lose. Anticipate that your vet will likely start with an exam, then will probably recommend checking a fecal sample and running bloodwork. Dramatic weight loss in young dogs can be due to problems with digestion (such as inflammatory bowel disease or pancreatic insufficiency), congenital issues (such as a liver shunt), intestinal parasites, and (less commonly) cancer, among other things.
